Discovering My Son’s Hidden Pain Led Me to Uncover a Dark Family Secret I Never Expected

Discovering My Son’s Hidden Pain Led Me to Uncover a Dark Family Secret I Never Expected Save

Listening to Lucas's Pain

“They went on vacation,” Lucas murmured, his voice a fragile whisper in the dim light. Gabriel's heart twisted as he watched his son scrubbing the clothes, his fingers trembling.

“What do you mean they left you?” Gabriel asked, forcing himself to stay calm.

“Candice and Wyatt said I had to take care of everything until they got back,” Lucas replied, his eyes darting to the floor.

“You have to keep it clean for them, Dad,” Lucas added, his voice barely above a whisper.

Gabriel crouched beside him, the reality of his son’s words sinking in. “What about you, Lucas? Are you okay?”

He saw Lucas's shoulders stiffen, a wall of defense rising. “I just need to get it done.”

“You shouldn’t have to do this alone.” Gabriel’s stomach knotted. “What else is happening here?”

Lucas hesitated, the tension in the air palpable. “Sometimes, Candice gets angry. She says I’m useless.”

“Angry how?”

“She… she hits me sometimes when I don’t clean fast enough.” Lucas's voice cracked, and tears welled in his eyes.

“And Wyatt? Is he part of it?”

Lucas lowered his head. “He just stays quiet. But I think he likes it.”

A lump formed in Gabriel's throat. “Lucas, I need you to be honest. Show me.”

With trembling hands, Lucas rolled up his sleeves. The bruises were dark, vivid against his pale skin, an ugly testament to the abuse. Gabriel's breath caught, frustration spiraling within him.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, anger and fear clashing like thunder in his chest.

“I thought it would make things worse,” Lucas whispered.

Gabriel’s mind raced. “This has to end. I won’t let them hurt you anymore.”

Preparing for Confrontation

As dawn crept in, Gabriel's resolve hardened. He grabbed his phone, documenting every bruise, every mark. He had to confront Candice when she returned, to show her the truth.

“Lucas, I’m going to protect you,” he promised, his voice firm.

Days passed in anxious anticipation. Gabriel spent late nights recording their conversations, stacking evidence. But something gnawed at him. Did Candice truly realize the pain she was causing?
