I Married a Mafia Boss on a Hospital Bed and Became the Prize in His Deadly Game of Loyalty

I Married a Mafia Boss on a Hospital Bed and Became the Prize in His Deadly Game of Loyalty

Awakening

“Now anybody who comes for you comes through me.” His breath brushed my ear as the ring slipped onto my swollen finger.

The room spun, the chandelier shattered into a thousand glints, and a voice shouted, “Call an ambulance!” before everything went black.

When my eyes finally opened, the ceiling was a sterile white grid, not the gold leaves of the ballroom.

A young nurse named Maya leaned over the bedside rail, her uniform crisp, a cup of water cradled in gloved hands.

“Take a sip, Clara,” she whispered, her voice soft enough to compete with the constant beeping of the monitors.

I lifted the cup, the liquid tasting metallic, like the blood that still lingered in my throat.

Dominic Rossi stood a few steps away, his silhouette a dark cut against the blinking lights. His expression was unreadable, eyes fixed on the empty space where my pulse used to race.

My mind scraped for the night’s chaos—champagne, the gold ring, the cold sting of a needle—and then settled on the band now circling my finger.

“What’s this?” I asked, voice hoarse, sliding my thumb over the smooth metal.

Maya glanced at Dominic, then back at me, her lips parting.

“It’s not a wedding band,” she said, the words barely audible over the machines. “It’s a tracker. The Rossi family uses it to keep tabs on… assets.”

A chill ran down my spine, colder than the hospital air. I stared at the ring, feeling the faint pulse of a hidden antenna beneath the gold.

Dominic finally spoke, his tone flat. “You’re now part of something bigger than you know.”

I swallowed, the water turning to ice. My thoughts raced—how had a simple shift at a wedding led to this?

The Escape Threat

Maya slipped something thin between my fingers: a hospital keycard, its magnetic stripe blinking faintly.

“There’s a vault beneath the Aster Crown,” she whispered, eyes darting to the doorway. “My brother works the basement. The Rossi family keeps their most… valuable items there.”

I felt the weight of the card, a sliver of hope in a room that smelled of antiseptic and stale champagne.

“If I get out, I can find it, maybe expose them,” I thought, heart thudding louder than the monitors.

Dominic remained motionless, a statue of menace, while I plotted my escape. I imagined slipping through the hallway, the keycard granting me access to the hidden vault, the ring’s tracker becoming my undoing.

“You should stay,” Maya warned, her voice trembling. “They won’t let you go.”

“Then I’ll make them,” I muttered, swallowing a surge of fear and defiance.

Just as I pushed the door ajar, the ICU’s steel door burst open with a violent clang.

A figure cloaked in black surged forward, a mask hiding a scarred face. A gun glinted in the harsh fluorescent light.

“Hand over the ring,” the enforcer growled, pointing the weapon directly at me.

My breath caught, the water cup crashing to the floor, shattering like my hopes.

The door slammed shut behind the masked intruder, sealing the room in a thin line of steel and terror.

Section 3 – The Enforcer Unmasked

The heavy door slammed open with a thud that rattled the monitors. A figure stepped in, mask hiding the face, shoulders broad, a gun pressed to my wrist.

“Give me the ring,” the voice rasped, low and clinical.

I felt my pulse slam against my neck as the metal circle slipped from my finger, the tracking device humming faintly against my skin.

“You don’t understand,” I whispered, trying to keep my voice steady, “I’m not—”

“Silence,” the enforcer snarled, tightening his grip.

Suddenly the mask slipped. The eyes that met mine were familiar, sharp, and full of the same nervous energy I’d seen behind a coffee machine.
