I Let His Ex Walk In While I Planned the Perfect Revenge at Our Housewarming Party

I Let His Ex Walk In While I Planned the Perfect Revenge at Our Housewarming Party Save

Welcome, Everyone

“Can you all grab a glass?” I called, waving the crystal pitcher as the last of the guests drifted in.

Funmi slipped through the doorway first, her smile polished but eyes flickering toward the chandelier.

“It’s been a while, Funmi,” I said, extending a hand that felt oddly cold.

She pressed my palm lightly, “Indeed. Your new place looks… bright.”

My husband, Mark, hovered near the cake, his fingers scrolling on his phone like a nervous habit.

Every few seconds his gaze snapped up, locking onto me for a heartbeat before diving back into the screen.

I forced a laugh, “Mark, can you pass the napkins?”

He handed them over, his smile thin, “Anything for the hostess.”

The chatter swelled around us—cousins, colleagues, my best friend Leah, who already had her phone out, ready to capture the moment.

“So, how was the move?” Leah asked, nudging me with a grin.

“Exhausting, but worth it,” I answered, eyes flicking to the moment Mark’s thumb lingered on the lock screen, a single unread notification pulsing.

Funmi lingered by the punch bowl, her voice soft as she said, “I hear you two are finally settling down. That must feel… secure.”

I felt a prickle rise along my spine, but I kept the smile plastered on, “We’re just happy to have you all here.”

Mark’s phone buzzed again, a faint vibration against his thigh, and he glanced at it, then at me, an unspoken question hanging in the air.

“Don’t worry,” I whispered, “I’ve got this.”

The Toast That Turned

“Everyone, if I could have your attention,” Mark announced, lifting his glass, “to new beginnings and old friendships.”

A murmur rippled through the room as glasses clinked, the sparkle of the ice catching the light.

“To my wonderful wife, whose patience rivals even my own insecurities,” Funmi added, her tone sweet‑sounding but edged.

I felt the room tilt, the words landing like a soft stone in a pond.

“Thanks, Funmi,” I replied, voice steady, “for that… generous sentiment.”

A few guests laughed nervously, but the atmosphere tightened, a subtle gasp in the background.

Mark’s phone buzzed again, louder this time, the screen flashing a cryptic number: 08**‑***‑**.

His thumb hovered, then slipped, and he stared at me, eyes wide.
